He listens

Today started out like most days have started out the past couple months – to the sound of my baby boy, Judah, crying. When I hear that cry, I know he is in need of something, so me or Amy get up to fill that need.  Judah is only two months old, so when he cries he gets, what he wants.  I thought about this in relation to my relationship to God.When I first started serving God, when I cried out to Him, the answer normally can very quickly. God showed me grace knowing that I was still a spiritual baby, but can this relationship between God and me really continue like this? I  believe God always hears our cry,but as I have matured spiritually, I have realized that the answers may not come so quickly.  Jesus said in Luke 13:22-24:

22Then Jesus went through the towns and villages, teaching as he made his way to Jerusalem. 23Someone asked him, “Lord, are only a few people going to be saved?”

He said to them, 24“Make every effort to enter through the narrow door, because many, I tell you, will try to enter and will not be able to.

As I thought about this scripture, I was reminded that God never promised the Christian walk would be easy. We are in a spiritual battle; one we must choose to fight.  In many cases, a person who makes a decision to say a prayer gets right with God, hopefully make a public profession of this in water baptism ,and gets filled with the Holy Ppirit. But then, the person floats through the life.  I believe that so many of us who call ourselves Christian fall away from God because we have not yet embraced Christianity as a lifestyle.  God wants a realationship with me – a daily connecting. Well, I have determined I don’t want regular Sunday Christianity.  This type is normally marked with a one-day church experience and then back to the daily grind. So, in light of these thoughts, God may not always answer us when or how we want him to. But there is one thing for sure: He will answer.  God is not far away. He never closes his ears.  He is concerned about us.
